The quote written by Leo J. Burke, which says that “people who say that they sleep like a baby usually don’t have one”. For a very long time, we found ourselves tip toeing around the house, while my daughter napped and slept, doing everything to try not wake her. Before you have a child, you read books about them, and then you have them and suddenly realise there isn’t a manual for how they work …

I am a mum of one child, with a background in psychology (BSc Hon) and Early Years teaching. When my little one was born, my husband and I were petrified at what the affects of sleep deprivation was going to be like on our household and relationship. We spent the first 15 months of our daughters life adamant that we were not going to have a bad sleeper, so we bought an app, and studied it and tried our very best to understand all that it was saying about sleep training. We did the sleep training from the app, but we found it so complicated that none of us reaped the benefits of a full nights sleep. We put so much of our time and energy into doing this. However, we more often than not were left feeling confused as to what her sleep needs were, and when to change things as her needs changed. It felt like her sleep needs changed every day. Every conversation, and all our time was spent trying to get her to sleep, keep her asleep or trying to get her back to sleep. It was exhausting!

I then consulted with a sleep consultant, who took the time to explain what my daughters sleep needs were, answered the questions that I had, and explained to us what the exact steps of how to do the sleep training were. Within the 10 days I began to see results, and we were for the first time genuinely getting full nights of sleep.

456 days of trying to figure it out ourselves versus 10 days of working with a sleep consultant…

But it really was the BEST feeling knowing my little one was getting a full nights sleep.

She learnt how to be an independent sleeper, which is a skill for life, and it’s changed our life for the better.

I still think it’s unbelievable the difference that just a few simple changes made. There is something very special about having everything explained to you, it takes all the guess work out, which when we were sleep deprived is exactly what we needed!

Sleep is no longer an issue for us, we just get on with our lives. My husband and I have our evenings back, and our nights back. I am no longer an anxious mum. I am able to enjoy being a mum to my little girl everyday because I am no longer sleep deprived. My little one is also reaping the benefits of more sleep, so she not only is calmer and happier within herself, but her appetite is consistent and healthy because she isn’t tired all the time.

Jamie went from waking every 2 hours, taking a while to settle while us sitting in the room with him, to sleeping through the night a few nights in a row. We have now come out of the room and Jamie can settle himself to sleep. The progress has been brilliant. We still have a bit to go, but definitely so much better since getting Stephanie.

Since our son Logan was born, me and Michael have not had more than 3h uninterrupted sleep. That was 6 months and 1 week! The 3h stretches may have happened 10 times during this period. Day time naps were all contact naps, breastfeeding to sleep and sleep in my arms. Since Logan was born, we tried every time to put him down to sleep but nothing we tried worked.

Both me and my husband loved the contact naps, no doubt, we love spending time with our son but the sleep deprivation was getting out of hand and I was loosing focus during normal day to day activities.

We decided to give this 100% and see how it would go.
We were not willing to do cry it out and Stephanie reassured us and made sure we were comfortable with the plan.

First night was tough, 50 min of on and off cry but.. then the magic happened, the first time ever that Logan slept for over 10h, in his own bed, in his own room.
From there, we had a couple days where he was fighting naps but nights went amazing, only 1 wake a few of the nights but never needed to go in for comfort.

Our lives have changed so much, now me and my husband are able to have dinner together at the same time, watch a movie or spend some time dedicating it to our hobbies while Logan gets his much needed rest.

Working with Steph was completely transformative overnight.
Our little girl Lily (7 months) used to self-settle well and go to sleep independently but when I left her overnight once she had a bout of separation anxiety and rejected the cot. The first night on the sleep programme was hard with Lily not liking the change and multiple wakes but to my amazement on night 2 Lily slept through the whole night! Considering she was still feeding at night before; I genuinely thought it was a miracle. But Lily continued to thrive throughout the programme and has continued to do so after, she’s able to put herself back to sleep when waking at night – even when her teeth are popping through. She has two 90 minute naps and absolutely LOVES her sleep.
Steph was incredible throughout, checking in all the time, tweaking the naps for us and helping Lily adapt to 2 naps instead of 3.
I now have TIME during her naps and in the evening to do housework / work / and spend time with my partner and the best thing I get to do is SLEEP myself!!!

In a week, I managed to have a baby sleep for around 11 hours every night! We have needed to do some minor tweaking to suit his sleep pattern (7:00 am to 6:00 am). Our baby can self soothe when waking up at nights and we are in a much better place than when we started. It took me a while to transition and it was really hard at some moments, but I am so happy that I persisted because my son is sleeping much better at night and during the daytime.
One of the best parts about the program was the workarounds that Stephanie would suggest based on how the day is going, making note of what is working, what is not working, always looking for alternate methods if something was not falling in place. I really appreciate Stephanie’s dedication to the child and the program as well in terms of her availability and follow ups too. I would often joke with her that she might be losing her sleep over my son’s sleep.
I have now turned into that nutty person who raves on about this program and advises everyone with a baby to get it. I feel like I have my sanity back and I can be the calm, supportive mum that I want to be for my baby.

Stephanie helped us create a simple cot sleep routine that worked for baby and us and coached us through methods to get our daughter falling back asleep herself during the night. It took a bit of time but consistency and knowing Stephanie was always available to ask advice really helped! We had seen a positive review for Stephanie’s sleep training method from a close neighbour of ours and decided that we would give it a try. We had little hope that any form of sleep training would work but nonetheless went into this with our eyes wide open. We started sleep training with Lilly when our new baby was just a few weeks old. Tony took the lead with Lilly’s training while Mom nursed the new baby. By closely following the training plan given and following the instructions from Stephanie over the phone and by email we quickly found the plan working to our amazement. The results were unbelievable and beyond our wildest expectations.

Now after just 3 weeks Lilly sleeps through the night, without any assistance whatsoever and also naps during the day perfectly. She knows she is safe in her cot and is now able to get herself back to sleep if she wakes during the night. She has always been a very happy child by day and this has continued while she now gets quality sleep at night and all this while helping everyone around her to also get through the night without having to run to her room in the middle of the night.

I would highly recommend Stephanie who is very understanding and hugely helpful, giving specific instructions throughout the training period. The plan provided is very easy to follow and is great to give parents confidence and to give clear direction on how to approach getting ready for every nap and bedtime as well as how to deal with any ‘bumps in the road’.
